Third Party Services & Costs

Everything you need to know about the services required to run your Artist Empowerment Suite - explained in plain English

Before You Begin

The Artist Empowerment Suite is a powerful collection of WordPress plugins that help artists sell music, videos, merchandise, and connect with fans. While our plugins are designed to work together seamlessly, they rely on several third-party services to handle things like payments, file delivery, and email.

Think of it like opening a physical store: You need to rent a space (hosting), have a way to accept payments (Stripe/PayPal), and possibly hire delivery services (CDN). Each service has its own costs, but together they create a complete system for your artist business.

Note: Prices shown are current as of late 2024/early 2025 and may change. Always check the official websites for the most up-to-date pricing.

Detailed Service Breakdown

Web Hosting

Required

What is it?

Web hosting is like renting space on the internet for your website. Your hosting provider stores all your website files, music, images, and data on powerful computers (servers) that are always connected to the internet, so visitors can access your site 24/7.

Why do you need it?

Without hosting, your website simply wouldn’t exist on the internet. It’s the foundation everything else is built on. For an artist selling music and videos, you need reliable hosting that can handle file downloads and streaming without slowing down.

What to look for:

  • WordPress optimized – Hosting specifically designed for WordPress runs faster and is more secure
  • WooCommerce compatible – Since you’re selling products, you need hosting that supports e-commerce
  • Good storage space – Audio and video files take up space; look for at least 10-20GB to start
  • SSL included – Many hosts include free SSL certificates (the padlock that shows your site is secure)
  • Daily backups – Automatic backups protect your work if something goes wrong

Pricing

Starter/Shared $7 - $15/month Good for getting started
Managed WordPress $25 - $50/month Better performance & support
VPS/Dedicated $50 - $200+/month High traffic sites

Our recommendation: Start with managed WordPress hosting ($25-35/month) for the best balance of performance, security, and support. Popular options include SiteGround, Cloudways, or WP Engine.

Domain Name & SSL

Required

What is it?

Your domain name is your website’s address (like yourartistname.com). It’s how fans find you online. An SSL certificate adds the “https://” and padlock icon to your site, encrypting data between your visitors and your server – essential for accepting payments.

Why do you need it?

A custom domain looks professional and is easy for fans to remember. SSL is absolutely required for any website accepting payments – browsers will warn visitors if you don’t have it, and payment processors won’t work without it.

Pricing

.com Domain $10 - $15/year Most common choice
Premium Domains $20 - $1000+/year Short or popular names
SSL Certificate FREE - $100/year Often included with hosting

Good news: Most hosting providers include a free SSL certificate (Let's Encrypt) and some even include a free domain for the first year. Check your hosting plan before purchasing separately.

WooCommerce

Required

What is it?

WooCommerce is a free WordPress plugin that turns your website into an online store. It handles products, shopping carts, checkout, orders, and inventory. The Artist Empowerment Suite is built on top of WooCommerce.

Why do you need it?

WooCommerce is the foundation that allows you to sell music, videos, and merchandise. Our AES plugins extend WooCommerce to add features specifically designed for artists – like audio streaming, video players, and fan engagement tools.

What’s included free:

  • Product management and inventory
  • Shopping cart and checkout
  • Order management
  • Customer accounts
  • Basic payment gateways
  • Shipping calculations
  • Tax management

Pricing

WooCommerce Core FREE Open source, no fees

The catch: While WooCommerce is free, you'll likely want some paid extensions or themes eventually. However, the AES plugins provide most of what artists need without requiring additional WooCommerce add-ons.

Stripe (Payment Processing)

Required

What is it?

Stripe is a payment processor that allows you to accept credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and more. When a fan buys your music or merch, Stripe securely processes the payment and deposits the money into your bank account.

Why do you need it?

You need a way to accept payments! Stripe is integrated with our Token System (for fan tokens/coins), Crowdfunding campaigns, and standard WooCommerce purchases. It’s one of the most trusted and widely-used payment processors.

Key features:

  • Accept all major credit/debit cards
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay support
  • Automatic deposits to your bank (usually 2 business days)
  • Built-in fraud protection
  • No monthly fees – only pay when you make sales
  • Works internationally

Pricing

US Card Payments 2.9% + $0.30 Per successful charge
International Cards 3.9% + $0.30 +1% for currency conversion
Monthly Fee $0 No setup or monthly costs
Example: $10 Album Sale

Fee: ($10 x 2.9%) + $0.30 = $0.59
You keep: $9.41

PayPal (Alternative Payment)

Optional

What is it?

PayPal is another payment processor that many people prefer, especially for online purchases. Some fans feel more comfortable paying through PayPal because they don’t have to enter their credit card details on your site.

Why do you need it?

Offering PayPal alongside Stripe gives customers a choice, which can increase sales. Some international customers prefer PayPal, and it’s a trusted name in online payments. However, Stripe alone is sufficient for most sellers.

Pricing

US Transactions 2.99% + $0.49 Standard online payments
International +1.5% Added to base rate
Monthly Fee $0 No setup or monthly costs

Bunny CDN (File Delivery)

Recommended

What is it?

CDN stands for “Content Delivery Network.” Think of it as a network of computers around the world that store copies of your files. When a fan in Japan downloads your album, they get it from a server in Asia instead of your server in the US – making it much faster.

Why do you need it?

For artists selling large files like music albums or videos, a CDN is highly recommended because:

  • Faster downloads – Fans get their purchases quickly, no matter where they are
  • Protects your main server – Your website stays fast even when lots of people download files
  • Secure delivery – Special signed URLs prevent unauthorized sharing
  • Saves bandwidth – Reduces load on your hosting, potentially saving money

The Artist Empowerment Suite integrates with Bunny CDN to deliver music downloads, stream audio/video, and store media files (like fan “Moments” uploads). You can configure it to use token-signed URLs so only paying customers can access files.

Pricing

CDN Bandwidth $0.01/GB North America & Europe
Storage $0.01/GB/month Per storage region
Minimum Monthly $1.00 Very affordable to start
Example: Small Music Catalog

10GB storage + 50GB downloads/month
Cost: $0.10 + $0.50 = ~$1/month (minimum)

Why Bunny? It's one of the most affordable CDNs available, with simple pricing and excellent performance. No contracts, no commitments - just pay for what you use.

Bunny Stream (Video Streaming)

Recommended

What is it?

Bunny Stream is a video hosting and streaming service. Unlike YouTube, you have full control – no ads, no recommendations to competitors, and your content stays yours. It automatically converts your videos to different quality levels so they play smoothly on any device or connection speed.

Why do you need it?

If you’re selling video content (music videos, behind-the-scenes, tutorials, live performances), you need a reliable way to stream it. Bunny Stream:

  • Automatically optimizes videos for streaming (transcoding is FREE)
  • Adjusts quality based on viewer’s internet speed
  • Works with our TVP (TV-style Player) for a professional viewing experience
  • Supports DRM/encryption for premium content
  • Includes a video player at no extra cost

Pricing

Video Streaming $0.005/GB That's half a cent per GB!
Storage $0.01/GB/month Store your video library
Transcoding FREE No encoding fees
Example: Video Library

50GB video storage + 200GB streaming/month
Cost: $0.50 + $1.00 = ~$1.50/month

Mailchimp (Email Marketing)

Optional

What is it?

Mailchimp is an email marketing platform that helps you build and manage your mailing list, send newsletters, announce new releases, and stay connected with fans.

Why do you need it?

Email is still one of the most effective ways to reach your fans directly – you own your email list, unlike social media followers. The WooCommerce integration automatically syncs your customers to Mailchimp so you can:

  • Send new release announcements
  • Share exclusive content with buyers
  • Notify fans about upcoming shows
  • Segment fans by what they’ve purchased

Pricing

Free Plan $0/month Up to 500 contacts, 1,000 emails/month
Essentials From $13/month Remove branding, automation
Standard From $20/month Advanced features

Start free: The free plan is perfect for getting started. You can grow into paid plans as your fan base expands.

Printify (Print-on-Demand Merch)

Optional

What is it?

Printify is a print-on-demand service that lets you sell custom merchandise (t-shirts, hoodies, posters, mugs, etc.) without holding any inventory. When a fan orders a shirt, Printify prints it and ships it directly to them.

Why do you need it?

  • No upfront costs – You don’t buy inventory; products are made when ordered
  • No storage needed – Printify handles everything
  • Huge product catalog – Hundreds of products to choose from
  • Automatic fulfillment – Orders sync from WooCommerce automatically
  • Global shipping – Reach fans worldwide

You upload your designs, set your prices, and add products to your store. When someone orders, Printify charges you the base cost and ships the product. You keep the difference as profit.

Pricing

Free Plan $0/month Full access, standard product prices
Premium $29/month Up to 20% off product costs
Example: T-Shirt Sale

Base cost: ~$12 | You charge: $25
Your profit: $13 per shirt (minus payment fees)

Start free: Use the free plan until you're making consistent sales. Premium makes sense when you're selling 10+ items per month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is AES really free to start?

Yes. Download AES Core free and use it with up to 50 fans, 10 songs, and 5 videos. No credit card required.

What happens when I hit my fan limit?

You get a 30-day grace period to upgrade. During this time, everything keeps working. After 30 days, new fan registration pauses until you upgrade. Existing fans are never affected.

Do I lose my add-on discount if I upgrade tiers?

Add-ons are one-time purchases at your tier price. If you buy Token System at Starter (50% off), you keep it forever. Future add-on purchases use your current tier discount.

Can I downgrade if my fanbase shrinks?

Tiers are based on registered fans, not active. If you’re at Pro tier, you stay at Pro tier. Think of it as unlocking levels.

What's the difference between Free and Starter?

Free: Limited to 50 fans, 10 songs, 5 videos. No add-ons available.
Starter: Unlimited content, up to 1,000 fans, all add-ons available at 50% off.

Do my plugins stop working if I don't renew membership?

No. Plugins work forever. Membership is for updates and support only.

What counts as a "fan"?

A registered user with the Fan role on your site. You control who becomes a fan through your registration settings.

What if I need more than 1 million fans?

Contact us! Enterprise tier includes custom pricing, dedicated support, and custom integrations for your needs.

Is AES a marketing platform?

AES is a destination, not a marketing platform. Marketing gets people to your door — AES gives them an incredible experience once they arrive.
